Grand Total

(My apologies to those of you have already heard this story. Some of you more than once.)

In June of 2007, a friend of mine was telling me that she was so proud of herself because it was only half way through the year, and she had already read eleven books.
Eleven? That's all?
So I went home and tried to think of all the books I had read that year. I could only think of ten! I was sure I had read more than that, but I couldn't remember them. So as soon as 2008 started, I wrote down every book I read. And no, I didn't count any picture books, and I didn't count books that I didn't finish.
And so, at the end of 2008, the grand total was...

SIXTY-FIVE!

At the first of the year I was sure I could reach one hundred, but when you throw in The Count of Monte Cristo (1462 pages), Pride and Prejudice, and just life in general, it sure cuts down on one's speed reading.
Still, sixty-five's not bad. That's more than one a week.
And my goal for 2009 is to read at least sixty-six. :)
Anybody up for a little friendly competition?

oh, how I would love to read 66 books this year!! My problem is that I cannot put books down once I pick them up. I basically turn into a zombie and nothing gets fed or changed or cleaned. If only I had more self control! Great job and best of luck on your new goal!

Do plays count? What about books I read for school?

I would say that plays count. And a school book would count if you read the whole thing.

I might have to try that--not the friendly competition, but the writing down of all the books I read this year. I would like to know how many books I've read. However, I don't think I would come near to 65. I'll keep you posted.

Count me in! I've only read two already this year, but that's pretty slow for me (and one of them did have 600 pages ...).

My goal is 67 ;)

Oh, man. Now I'm toast. I forgot about Sara. ;) But I hereby accept the challenge, with just one question. Do we or do we not count books on tape? I didn't count them last year, considering them to be not "real" reading. But if it'll help my numbers, then I'm game. Whaddayathink?

Cool I'm game...I think books on tape/CD count... You still have to concentrate and imagine and all that... I feel like I still read the book when I listen to them? So I say they should. That's my vote. I've read two so far too but not that long of ones... so I think Sara still wins

Okay I'm in, though I'm having a hard time remembering what I've read...Except for one play.

You've read so many books in the first fifteen days of the year that you can't even remember them all? Holy smokes!

I've only finished one book so far this year, but I'm in the middle of four others. One for book club (1024 pages), one I'm reading to the kids, one I listen to while doing dishes, and one I got for Christmas. So my resolution to finish all my projects is gong well so far...

Can I count every book I REread? lol Or else I don't have a chance. K I don't have a chance anyway, but still! Maybe I could get an honorable mention!

Sure, sure. Count the books you re-read. But really, Jamie. There are other books out there, you know. ;)
